In the old castle stores, food is prepared according to the original recipes and you will find everything that gave life to the medieval market.

Wholesome and tasty ring-shaped cakes, perfumed wine that caused inebriation, traditional bread with raisins, the egg seller, the eel seller, the blacksmith, florist …

Today, the bread and wine of the old castle are still produced according to the original recipes. Now, the greatest asset is to find time for yourself and do the things that you enjoy, to have several children and to have time to sit and play with them and hand down the old traditions.

Now the greatest pleasure is to sit close to the fire around the hearth and talk about our childhood, the struggles in growing up, our grandparents’ habits at home and the pleasure we felt when we detected the aroma from the just baked bread …

And, when we were up to mischief, the fear of being caught vanished once we could bury our faces in granny’s apron, which smelled of soap and vanilla … then, after a walk in the countryside, our grandparents would return home with their friends and drink a large glass of wine … the good stuff, the same that was taken to the priest … how we felt excluded from that affectionate gesture that was exchanged while pouring the wine … and how we wanted to be grown-ups to share that joy!

Through colours, aromas and tastes, we hand down our historic traditions to the new generations that represent the future, so that they will know their roots…

After crossing the Castle gate, you will be wrapped up in the warm atmosphere of a Medieval Market.

When the ancient arts and crafts are passed on to us…

The flag-wavers, with their spectacular displays, entertain the King, Queen and all the pilgrims.

The Knight waits for children and adults alike to conduct them to the kingdom of Fantasy … where the fairy, elves, witch, ogre, Druid and woodsman await them.

…In the afternoon, the King and Queen will visit the market and the little knights of Gropparello Castle will be called on to defend the Kingdom…

Given the previous success, including in 2005, we will offer the “Grape Festival” for 4 successive Sundays.

“May the children come into the vat”!” shouts the vine dresser, while beating on the cauldron!

Beware of Besgan, the imp of the Black Grape…

From September 2, the day of the “Grape Festival”, and until September 30 the children may press grapes in the vats and take the must home or to school, together with the marc.

A school or family which has produced wine with the must from the pressing at Gropparello Castle may take two bottles of wine on the first Sunday in June 2007 to the “Court Wedding” event, when the wine from the children from all the schools and families who pressed grapes in the autumn of 2006 will be sampled.

A certificate of participation will be given to those who take part. One of the two bottles with the attached label from the castle will be given back, while the other bottle will join the collection of wines in the cellar of Gropparello Castle. The local and provincial authorities for agriculture will attend. Enjoy yourselves!

For adults in the farm-house lodge, the Sommelier will be present to conduct guided samplings on all 5 days.
